SAFFORD – Police say a homeless man stole more than $150 worth of diapers from Walmart and sold them to a third party.

John Dallas Joseph Munday was given a citation for shoplifting and was then released Nov. 30 after being captured on store surveillance video stealing diapers on two separate occasions. Munday allegedly stole two boxes of diapers in the first incident Nov. 29 and then returned to heist four more the following day.

According to a Safford Police report, a surveillance video shows Munday take the diapers and then bring them out to a car, which then drove away from the scene.

After officers were dispatched to the store at 755 W. 20th Ave., they quickly located Munday between 8th Street and the automotive entrance to the store. Munday was then later positively identified as the suspect by a Walmart employee.

During interrogation, Munday allegedly admitted to the thefts and said he did it because an unknown man said he would pay him for the diapers. Munday refused to identify the man whom he said he sold the diapers.

He was then given a citation for theft and was informed he was trespassed from the store. The report was then forwarded to the Safford City Attorney.
