PHOENIX — Governor Doug Ducey has designated the month of February as “Career and Technical Education Month,” recognizing Arizona’s leadership in preparing students for jobs in the 21st century economy. In a proclamation, the governor acknowledged the increasing importance of programs that provide Arizona students school-to-career education pathways.
“Preparing students for the jobs of tomorrow should be at the forefront of every state’s education agenda,” said Governor Ducey. “Arizona is already a leader in bringing together businesses with schools and higher education to design practical early college and career pathways. We will continue to focus on equipping all Arizona students with the in-demand skill sets that will enable them to succeed in the 21st century economy.”
Last month, Governor Ducey joined with business and education leaders toannounce an expansion of a public-private partnership, known as Pathways to Prosperity, that will provide more Arizona students access to quality work-based learning opportunities.
In addition, the governor’s Executive Budget includes an additional $2 million to fully fund large Joint Technical Education Districts (JTEDs), which serve more than half of all students attending JTEDs. Overall, Governor Ducey’s fiscal year 2019 Executive Budget calls for a total of $400 million in new dollars for K-12 public schools and students.
