THATCHER — Eastern Arizona College’s Communicative Arts Division is pleased to once again offer Beginning Conversational Russian (RUS011, section #1481) and Elementary Russian (RUS101, section #1090).

Maya Martinez, native Russian speaker and graduate of Government Economic University in Kostanai, Russia, teaches the classes on Tuesdays and Thursdays beginning Jan. 12, 2017, in the Academic Programs Building Room #109.

RUS011 (section #1481), a two-credit class, will be held from 9-9:50 a.m., and RUS101 (section #1090), a four-credit class, will be held from 9-10:50 a.m.

The topics range from weather, clothes, sports, health, directions, geography of Russia and more.

“There can’t be a good education without knowledge of foreign languages,” Martinez said. “It’s the way for different countries to know and understand each other better.”

Martinez was born in Russia and raised in Russia and Kazakhstan. She came to the Gila Valley in 2007. She has mastered English as her second language and loves teaching her native Russian language here in America.

To register for this class call EAC’s Records and Registration Office at (928) 428-8270 or visit Gila Hank Online at www.eac.edu. Students age 55 and over qualify for EAC’s Senior Citizen Tuition Scholarship, which covers the full cost of in-state tuition.
