’Don’t have to wait’ for Census mailer, I.D. number

SAFFORD – Those with P.O. Boxes waiting for Census I.D. number before completing the form will be waiting a long time – delivery has been suspended due toCOVID-19.

However, residents can still complete the form without that number.

“We just want people to know they don’t have to wait for their I.D. number, they don’t have to wait to actually get a Census in the mail. They get online right now, at My2020Census.gov, and they can fill it out,” said Ashley Smith. “It has a section where it says, “Enter your I.D. number here,’ and right below it, it says ‘If you don’t have an I.D. number.’  If they just click on that link, the next page that will pop up will ask them for their address. That’s the only extra step.”

Smith said there are about 3,000 households in Graham County – not including those living on the San Carlos Apache Reservation – that only have a P.O. Box. To reach those households, the plan was originally to send Census workers door-to-door, but the COVID-19 pandemic has temporarily halted face-to-face contact.

In addition to going online at MyCensus2020.gov to complete the Census, residents can opt to enter their data via phone at 844-330-2020.

It takes about 10 minutes to complete the form.
