Dixie Elaine Black Obituary

Dixie Elaine Black, 50, was born August 30, 1965 to Ellis and Roxie Black. She was the oldest of 7 children. She was the responsible one, always looking after her younger brothers and sisters.

She attended Ft. Thomas schools where she was active in many organizations including Pom, Publications, National Honor Society and Girls’ State. She graduated Valedictorian from Ft. Thomas High School in 1983. She then attended EAC, NAU, and ASU. She earned degrees in accounting and paralegal.

She loved books, movies, music, the color orange, and pigs. Her collection of stuffed and ceramic pigs numbered in the hundreds. She was fiercely independent and always supported herself. She worked several jobs including years in the business office at Fort Thomas Schools and most recently as a facilities engineer at First Data in Chandler, AZ.

She was diagnosed with stage 4 breast cancer in 2004 and began an 11 year fight. She never complained or felt sorry for herself. She was always thinking of others and was an avid bargain shopper. Her family was her life, though she never had the opportunity to marry or have children of her own. Her fight ended on October 25, 2015.

She is survived by her parents, Ellis and Roxie Black, sisters Mary Kaye and Ellisa Black, brothers Bill (Karen) Black, Rusty (Becki) Black, Larry (Tara) Black, Gene (Beth) Black, 8 nephews and 5 nieces.
