Clifton Police Department Releases Statement about Misener Murder

On February 10th, 2020 at approximately 0457 hours the Clifton Police Department received a radio transmission from Clifton Fire Department in regards to a traffic accident and possible shooting.  Personnel from Clifton Police, Clifton Fire, Greenlee Sheriff’s, Greenlee County Investigator, and Greenlee ambulance services responded to Highway 191, Mile Marker 165 for this incident.  Matthew Gerald Misener of Safford, Arizona succumbed to gunshot wounds he received causing him to wreck while driving to work.  A crime scene was established and Highway 191 was closed off in order to process the scene for evidence.

During the investigation law enforcement received numerous leads and tips from witnesses as well as other people involved with the victim.  This information led to a vehicle belonging to Eduardo Montano JR. of Tucson, Arizona having been in the area during the time of the incident.  Investigators were able to execute search warrants with the assistance of Pima County Sheriff’s Office.  A warrant was issued causing the arrest of Eduardo Montano Jr. with a bond amount of $1,000,000.00 for the murder of Matthew Misener.

This investigation is ongoing at this time, and no further information being released at this time.  The Clifton Police Department will continue to release information as deemed not sensitive in the case.
