Bulldogs tame Mustangs in second consecutive shutout win

For the second consecutive week the Safford Bulldogs pitched a shutout. This time a 31-0 win over the Sahuarita Mustangs. Both teams came into the 3A South Region opener with identical 3-2 records.

Neither team could get their offense going in the first half. Sahuarita had only 43 yards at the break, Safford had 85. Safford was able to find the endzone once though as CJ Scrivner capped a long drive with a 5 yard touchdown run to take a 7-0 lead.

The Bulldogs added a career long 41 yard field goal from Justin Torrio as the clock hit zeroes in the first half to take 10-0 lead into the locker room.

It was homecoming at Bulldogs Stadium and Safford crowns their royalty and halftime, which gave the coaching staff little to no time to make adjustments.

It didn’t seem to matter though as Scrivner took the 2nd half kickoff 80 yards to the house and just 13 seconds into the 3rd quarter Safford lead 17-0. He would add a 74 yard score as well to end his night with 165 yards and 3 total touchdowns.

Eduardo Ogaz added a 12 yard touchdown in the 4th quarter to cap the game and scoring at 31-0.

The Safford defense has been impressive this year. They have given up only 38 points in 6 games, including back to back shutouts. The forced 6 sacks on the night as well.

The Bulldogs move to 4-2 and will be on the road next week at 0-6 Catalina.
