SAFFORD – What’s in a name? In this case, the Big O Tires franchise name brings a nationwide warranty to go along with its tires and repairs, but the service and people of Boulevard Tire are still the same.

Boulevard Big O Tires, located at 1217 W. Thatcher Blvd. in Safford, has recently changed their name to incorporate the Big O Tires brand name. Although they are still the same mechanic technicians and families who have worked within the community, the assurance of the Big O Tires brand name is just an added bonus. When buying the Big O Tires brand, whether it’s tires or maintenance, the assurance of a nationwide warranty is a safety net for any driver.

Preston and Melissa Alder own the Boulevard Big O Tires business and made the transition to the Big O Tires franchise in June of 2016. Preston told Gila Valley Central that what truly convinced him to take the business and transition it was the assurance of the Big O Tires warranty.

“The warranty is the reason for the change,” Preston said. “That was the thing that really talked us into doing this. We’re still locally owned; same ownership, we’re still here. It did not take away any of the services that we previously did. There is a peace of mind that comes with purchasing a Big O Tires that is just something that I as an independent tire dealer could not ever be able to accomplish the way that they do, as much as I tried.”

Although the name of the business has changed, Preston wanted to stress that their business is still a one-stop-shop for individuals needing repairs to any type of vehicle. From a flat wheelbarrow tire to large fleet care, the Boulevard Big O Tires shop is the place to go.

“Some people say, ‘Well do you still do air conditioning? Do you still do service work?’ Absolutely, we do it all,” Preston said. “So, nothing like that is changed, but it (Big O Tires) has brought us in with a really good company that teams up with us. We own the business; we run the business, but they are there to support us in the things we do.”

Boulevard Big O Tires’ business has been working with residents of the Gila Valley for a very long time. The first Boulevard business was brought to life in 1953, and Preston has worked in the business since 1995. However, what began as an automotive repair and installation shop specializing in air condition and cruise control, has turned into a full-fledged shop that is capable of every type of repair and installation.

“We’re still able to do anything from doing a brake job in a car to replacing an engine on a car and everything in between,” Preston said. “Boulevard through the years was always recognized for their air conditioning service and that is still a huge part of our business in the summer. Nothing like that has changed. Through the years we just evolved from just strictly air conditioning and cruise controls to now we don’t do much with cruise control because they’re all installed out of the factory on cars. It’s kind of fun. Sometimes, someone will call and remember that we used to install a lot of cruise controls and we’re still able to help them. But you have to evolve as time goes with the needs of the vehicles of the (Gila) Valley here. Our goal was, what I think we’ve accomplished now, is that early on we were a specialty shop and did a few things, but we’ve involved into a one-stop-shop.”

Nevertheless, although the faces and quality remain the same, Preston stressed the value of the Big O Tires guarantee.

“With the Big O program, it’s so seamless,” he said. “A customer finds a location, comes in, and they should be treated the same as they are in my business; here to take care of their problem. Whether it’s a tire or a service issue, those warranties carry on throughout the whole Big O family.”
